8-bit acorn hardware • Re: Palettemate / enhanced video ULA with 4096 colours

Iirc, it has 8 bits for 7 high res pixels, but I'm not sure what happens in colour.
If it uses the extra bit to select then it will have its own colour clash.
On the beeb the closest would be mode 4/5 switching, up to per scan line if really needed.
From very, very distant brain cells, I remember the colour being dependant on whether the pixel was odd or even. The colours were black and white, if two or more pixels were on or off. In in an odd X-coordinate pixel it can be green or orange and in an even ,X-coordinate pixel it can be purple or blue. This led to the familiar shitty look of the Apple ][ in colour...

I really, really hope someone comes up with a new video ULA that can do 256 colours in MODE2 160x128x8 - it can't go in the ULA socket as the RAM bandwidth isn't fast enough, but could share SRAM with the 6502 so two rows of data can be read at once, leave the current ULA in place and have an extra IC to give enhanced modes?
